In the video released by the FBI, the Operational Technology Division sets up tests in a field in Osceola Mills, Pennsylvania, on June 29.
The explosive tests involve a 1993 Nissan Pathfinder stuffed with 250 pounds of ammonium nitrate and diesel fuel, along with three 25-pound propane tanks and two five-gallon gasoline containers.
These are the same materials allegedly found in the Times Square car bomb.
Taken from various angles, using normal and slow-motion cameras, the FBI video reveals that the explosion would have been quite large – almost certainly enough to kill scores of people in crowded Times Square.
In a memorandum urging a federal judge to sentence Shahzad to life in prison, prosecutors today said Shahzad told the FBI that – had the Times Square bomb been successful – he planned to build and set off another car bomb somewhere in New York City two weeks later. ‘While it is impossible to calculate precisely the impact of Shahzad’s bomb had it detonated, the controlled detonation… demonstrated that those effects would be devastating to the surrounding area,’ the sentencing document said.

African-Americans have been known to whisper, gossip or even argue with some discretion about the church scandal of the month, but the recent allegations involving Atlanta area Bishop Eddie Long could lead to open debates that extend deeply into the psyche of the black community.
This might be the thing that signals and ushers in that well-needed black church discussion about gay and lesbian lifestyles.
Long, pastor of the 25,000-member New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Lithonia, Ga., is known for taking a hardline stance against homosexual relationships and against same-sex marriage.
So it came as a shock last week when he was named in four lawsuits that accused him of coercing young men in sexual relationships — including grooming them through special programs set up for black male teens.
No wonder many African-Americans were glued to BET.com and other websites Sunday morning when Long, for the first time, responded to the charges. He cancelled two previously scheduled interviews, including one with CNN analyst Roland Martin on the syndicated radio program "The Tom Joyner Morning Show."
And just for the record, when Long did speak on Sunday, he did not outright deny the allegations.
"As I said earlier, I am not a perfect man, but this thing, I'm going to fight," he said, as his congregation exploded with extended, almost exaggerated applause.
"And I want you to know one other thing," Long continued. 'I feel like David against Goliath, but I got five rocks and I haven't thrown one yet."
Long said he wants the matter to be decided "in a court of justice and not by public opinion."
The accusations have struck a nerve on many fronts. Homosexuals being coddled in a supposedly anti-gay church certainly seems hypocritical, if not the outright cover-up that Long's accusers are claiming.
Maybe it's time African-American congregations and church leaders become more realistic, honest and open about homosexuality. Maybe it's time this issue becomes less taboo in a culture where black men operating "on the down low" continuously infect unsuspecting women with HIV/AIDS, a disease that is disproportionately killing black people.
Rightly or wrongly, black church members will more closely scrutinize church programs that target young African-American men, particularly enrichment and mentoring programs.
"When we have those types of programs at our churches, I think people are going to be suspect of our motives," said the Rev. Steve Brown, a community activist who is the former assistant pastor at Calvary Community Church in Hampton. "It will have a reverberating effect on our community — locally and nationally.
"It will bring a little more attention as to whether we have a problem with homosexuality or whether we are homosexual ourselves," said Brown, whose sister is a member at New Birth Missionary Baptist.
The Rev. Kevin Swann, pastor of Ivy Baptist Church in Newport News, characterized such closer scrutiny as "a ripple affect" and "collateral damage" from the accusations against Long.
Swann, who co-hosts a popular radio show, "The Pastor's Study," at noon on Tuesdays at WHOV-FM 88.1, said that if Long is guilty of the accusations, "he should step down, and not drag the church through this."
Long, 57, who has authored several books, is the spiritual leader to many in Atlanta's black elite. The funeral for Coretta Scott King was held at his church, where King's daughter, the Rev. Bernice King, is an elder.
Long's following is so fiercely loyal and protective of him that they get almost angry when he is addressed as Reverend Long or Eddie Long. Don't leave off that "Bishop" tag.
Swann and his co-hosts addressed the Long scandal on the program this week, and Swann noted: "Many people are taking the stance that he's a man of God; there is no way he could have done it. Is that the right stance to take?"
One caller noted: "I met people who believe their pastors are not human, and typically, in those cases, they fall."
The recent scandal has also caused some people to question Long's practice of sometimes wearing "muscle shirts" in the pulpit, showing off his bulging biceps, instead of consistently wearing suits or robes typically sported by most pastors.
I have a message for him: Buff Bishop, it's time to throw some rocks.

An Iranian gang who tried to sell young female virgins to wealthy Arabs charging up to £150,000 a girl, was jailed for sex trafficking and prostitution today.
The gang claimed to have 12 girls in the UK, available for sex in London hotels, including one aged 14 whom they regarded as "bait". They plotted to rake in huge sums through a party where young women could accept cash to sleep with wealthy Middle Eastern businessmen.
The gang – named as Mahrookh Jamali, 41, Sara Bordbar, 43, both of north London, and Fatima Hagnegat, 24, along with the latter's husband, Rasoul Gholampour, 30, both of Wigan – offered their services in a handwritten letter to Sheikh Mohammed Al Maktoum, the multibillionaire ruler of Dubai, who, police said, had had no involvement with the crimes.
They were caught last August when Hagnegat dropped off the note at the Jumeirah Carlton hotel, in Knightsbridge, London, which is owned by the sheikh. The note said: "My name is Mary and I have been in contact with one of your assistant in Dubai since 06.06.09 … I have 12 girls ready from the age 14-20 years, who are living all over the UK. I have spent money on the preparation of this event such as a rented house for the girls and also all expenses needed … Please, please, Mary … Please my life is dependent on your call."
Staff passed the note to Scotland Yard, which began an undercover sting operation involving a Farsi-speaking officer.
Provocative photographs of the girls were exchanged in 27 emails before the meeting, with discussion of potential sex acts. One conspirator said some of the virgins could be "broken" by clients, and offered to bring along two 13-year-olds for dancing.
When members of the gang went to a second hotel with six scantily-clad girls aged 14 to 22, they were arrested by police. The victims came from England, Poland and Iran, and had been told they could earn money dancing for rich men.
Bill McGivern, prosecuting, said the girls were told that if they had sex with a guest they would get more money.
Judge Alan Greenwood told Harrow crown court that the gang was motivated by greed, running a "money-making operation based on the exploitation and corruption of vulnerable young women".
All four pleaded guilty to conspiring to traffic six women aged 17 to 22 last year for sexual exploitation. Jamali, Hagnegat and Bordbar also admitted conspiracy to incite prostitution for gain.
The gang ringleader, Jamali, was jailed for two years and nine months. Hagnegat was jailed for two years and six months, and Bordbar, the only member with British citizenship, was jailed for two years and three months. Gholampour was jailed for two years and nine months. A charge of conspiracy to arrange prostitution of children lies on the files of all four.
NOGALES, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - FBI agents have arrested the mayor of Nogales on charges of corruption, money laundering and fraud.
A spokeswoman for the city of Nogales told KGUN9 News that several agents arrested Mayor Octavio Garcia-Von Borstel in his office this morning.
A short time later, the office of Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard issued a statement confirming the arrest. The statement read in part, "'Today's arrest of Mayor Van Borstel has been a collaborative effort with the FBI's Southern Arizona Corruption Task Force and the Arizona Attorney General's Office," stated Nathan T. Gray, FBI Special Agent in Charge of the Phoenix Division. 'When a public official allegedly commits criminal acts it erodes the public's trust. The FBI and our law enforcement partners are determined to address public corruption at all levels of government.'"
According to the press release, agents began investigating Garcia-Von Borstel five months ago. The release stated that mayor was "soliciting Nogales businesses to hire him as a business consultant as early as February 2009. At least one business admitted to the FBI that it was paying the mayor to use his official position to obtain business contracts and, specifically, to obtain new City of Nogales contracts, circumventing either open bidding or proper application processes.
According to the release, Garcia Von-Borstel's father, 59 year old Octavio Suarez Garcia, was also arrested on similar charges.
The press release quoted Attorney General Terry Goddard as saying, "These charges are serious violations of the law. Because some charges involve the official actions of an elected official, they violate the public trust.... Both the mayor and his father will be held accountable and prosecuted to the full extent of the law."
The charges do not appear to be related to accusations last year that Garcia-Von Borstel abused his city credit card, charging expensive meals and trips to the taxpayers. Read more...

In what's been called an epic fail, the finale of Australia's Next Top Model was thrown into confusion yesterday when the host announced the wrong winner. Occurred September 21, 2010 - A Summit County deputy is facing disciplinary action after a handcuffed inmate was tossed into a wall in the booking area of the jail and then thrown to the ground.
The video shows David Malcolm, 22, in handcuffs being escorted into the booking area. Malcolm was arrested for domestic violence against his girlfriend in Coventry Township.
Malcolm can be seen in the video moving his head back and then Deputy Jason Kline throws Malcolm against a jail wall. Moments later, Malcolm is thrown to the ground and Deputy Kline puts his knee on Malcolm.
The use of excessive force committee investigated and gave a recommendation to the sheriff Tuesday.
Yunnan-Guizhou, China - Oh man, this is brutal. Didn't know they have bullfights in China. The major difference is that there the bulls do the fighting, though also one man gets mangled by a bull. I did some research again and here's what I found out:

Date: 25th day of the first lunar month
Place: Guizhou and Yunnan Provinces
Activities: The Miao ethnic minority people are primarily farmers and have come to regard cattle as an indispensable ally, assisting them in all aspects of their daily lives. When the traditional Bullfight Festival comes, hosts feed their cattle well, even giving them wine in the hope that they will perform well. The festival usually held on an even meadow with the Miao people being well dressed on this auspicious occasion.
There are several alternative bullfights: two bulls and up to several bulls fighting etc. When two fight with each other, the result is usually determined within three to five minutes' fierce combat. However, it is only in the last round that decides which Bull is the winner; it may last more than half an hour. During the fight, audiences around the meadow shout loudly making the festival immersive in a fiery scene. Red silk sashes and flowers adorn the first prize bull with food being the Bulls reward. With bonfires being lit within the bullfighting ring whilst the young men play Lusheng (a homemade reed mouth organ with five or six pipes, played by various ethnic groups in southwest China) girls dance for the whole night. By holding the Bull Festival, Miao hope for a favorable harvest in the coming year and good health.
U.S. Army prosecutors urged a presiding Army judge to recommend courts-martial for five soldiers accused in a three-month killing spree in Afghanistan.
The prosecutors said the five men serving at Forward Operating Base Ramrod in southern Afghanistan sought out civilians at random and then killed them with grenades and rifle fire, ABC News reported Tuesday.
One of the defendants, Cpl. Jeremy Morlock, appeared in court Monday at Joint Base Lewis-McChord near Tacoma, Wash. He had been videotaped while being questioned in Afghanistan, The Seattle Times reported.
On the videotaped confession, Morlock described how Staff Sgt. Calvin Gibbs had men in his unit randomly choose civilians and then kill them.
"Gibbs called it like, 'Hey you guys wanna, you guys wanna wax this guy or what?' And you know, he set it up, like, he grabbed the dude," Morlock said on the tape.
The five soldiers face murder charges and if convicted could face the death penalty, the Los Angeles Times said. All have denied the charges.
The military says the investigation also led to the discovery of widespread drug use at the base.
Defense attorneys said Morlock didn't confess to the slayings and his statements indicate other soldiers did the actual killings, the Times said. The attorneys also questioned investigators' assertions that Morlock was properly told of his rights and that his prescription drug use -- he had taken a muscle relaxer before questioning -- should invalidate the statements as evidence.
The parents of Spc. Adam Winfield, another soldier accused in the killings, said they tried to warn the Army about the sergeant, but to no avail, ABC News said. The Winfields say they called six different Army offices and Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., to get help.

May 14, 2010: ASPCA Commends NYPD on Swift Action in Cruelty Case
On May 11, Manhattan resident Chris Grant pled guilty to animal cruelty for beating his girlfriend's 10-pound dog in the elevator of his Harlem housing project. He was sentenced to three months in jail.
In early January, while investigating the fatal stabbing of a nine-year-old boy, police officers uncovered video footage of a resident abusing a small dog in the building's elevator. The surveillance tapes depicted 21-year-old Grant violently kicking a black-and-white Chihuahua/Pomeranian mix, named Chuvi-Duvi.
Grant was arrested by NYPD officers two days later and charged with torturing and injuring an animal and resisting arrest. Chuvi-Duvi was transported to the ASPCA's Bergh Memorial Animal Hospital for treatment.
The ASPCA would like to commend the NYPD on taking swift and appropriate action in this case. Animal cruelty is a serious crime, and we are glad the victim in this case received justice.
In addition to his recent three-month sentence, Grant is currently serving a one-year jail term for an unrelated trespassing charge.

I did some research to this and to my surprise corporal punishment (for example) in British state schools, and also in private schools receiving any element of public funding, was banned by parliament as recently as 1987, in the remaining private schools it was banned in 1999 in England and Wales, 2000 in Scotland, and 2003 in Northern Ireland.
Here in Finland corporal punishment has been unlawful in schools since 1872.
