Report: Catholic Church Covered Up Child Abuse [VIDEO]

The Dublin Archdiocese Commission of Investigation's 720-page report said that it has "no doubt that clerical child sexual abuse was covered up" from January 1975 to May 2004, the time covered by the report.

"The Dublin Archdiocese's pre-occupations in dealing with cases of child sexual abuse, at least until the mid 1990s, were the maintenance of secrecy, the avoidance of scandal, the protection of the reputation of the Church, and the preservation of its assets," the report said.

"The welfare of children, which should have been the first priority, was not even a factor to be considered in the early stages," it said.

"Instead the focus was on the avoidance of scandal and the preservation of the good name, status and assets of the institution and of what the institution regarded as its most important members -- the priests."

Troubling news has surfaced about sewage systems in the US: over the last three years, 9,400 sewers--more than 37% of the all sewers across the nation--have illegally dumped untreated human waste, hazardous chemicals, and other dangerous materials into clean rivers and lakes. The results are often disastrous, as some damning video evidence proves.

As cities have grown rapidly across the nation, many have neglected infrastructure projects and paved over green spaces that once absorbed rainwater. That has contributed to sewage backups into more than 400,000 basements and spills into thousands of streets, according to data collected by state and federal officials.

In a study, researchers found that the number of kids in Milwaukee with violent diarrhea rose every time the sewers overflowed there. Four million people in California get sick every year from being exposed to untreated waste when swimming.

Stellar Explosion 6,000 Light-Years From Earth That Was So Powerful People Saw the Burst in A.D. 1054 [PIC]

[VIA National Geographic] A product of cosmic collaboration, this new picture of the Crab Nebula combines data from the Chandra X-ray Observatory, the Hubble Space Telescope, and the Spitzer Space Telescope. The nebula is the remnant of a stellar explosion 6,000 light-years from Earth that was so powerful people saw the burst in A.D. 1054, according to NASA.

Infrared light caught by Spitzer and visible light seen by Hubble paint the nebula's expanding debris cloud in shades of purple and red. Meanwhile, Chandra's x-ray vision is helping astronomers understand the high-energy particles (seen in blue) coming from the dead star's core, known as a white dwarf.

Rihanna to Earn $500,000 at New Year's Eve Party at the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi

Rihanna will earn $500,000 to perform at a New Year’s Eve party.

The ‘Umbrella’ singer has been asked to sing at the Emirates Palace Hotel
in Abu Dhabi to help revelers see in 2010 in what will be her first performance in the Middle East.

A source told the New York Post newspaper, “She was supposed to perform back in May but she canceled in the aftermath of the assault. This is a make-up date.”

Rihanna had been due to perform in Dubai earlier this year, which would have been her first show since she was attacked by ex-boyfriend Chris Brown in February.

However, she canceled the concert as she felt she wasn’t ready to return to the stage.

Rihanna will not be the first star to earn a vast amount of money for a one-off concert.

On New Year’s Eve 2006, George Michael was paid $2.6 million to perform 13 songs at a party for Russian nickel magnate Vladimir Potanin and a few months later was given around $2.5 million to sing at the 55th birthday
party of Sir Philip Green, the owner British fashion chain Topshop.

Last year, it was revealed Amy Winehouse was paid $1.6 million to perform in an old Russian bus garage for Daria ‘Dasha’ Zhukova – the girlfriend of Chelsea Football Club owner, billionaire Roman Abramovich.

The Rolling Stones were paid around $7.3 million for playing at the 60th birthday bash of billionaire David Bonderman. [via]

It's Official: Oprah Quits

It's official, Oprah is ending her reign at the end of her 25th Season on September 25, 2011.

Harpo president Tim Bennett said in a statement posted on websites of several TV stations which air the program Winfrey would make the official announcement on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" on Friday, as well as disclose the reasons behind the decision.

"The Oprah Winfrey Show", broadcast from Chicago on ABC stations across the United States, is the top-rated U.S. daytime talk show averaging 7.1 million viewers this year.

The news came out earlier in the afternoon and it’s now spreading through Twitter at an astonishing rate.

A teary-eyed Kate Gosselin talks about how she has grown jaded after the destruction of her once-storybook marriage in an interview with the Today Show's Natalie Morales that is slated to air on TLC Monday night.

In an new revelation, Kate said her inner circle is composed of "a very, very small group" of allies.

Kate said, "When you look around, and very close trusted people, who you would swear on your life would never ever ... cash you in -- and those people do that -- you tend not to trust people."

Concerning one of the rare people in the inner circle, bodyguard Steve Neild, Kate touched on whispers she was sleeping with her brawny protector, saying it was an “outrageous claim” Jon leaked to the tabloids.

Kate, who said she is a very strong woman, said she has gone through many sleepless nights with her marriage crumbling away.

Said the 34-year-old reality TV mom: "I'm awake in the middle of the night thinking, 'I am making the best decision?'"

She said "things got bad ... really bad," when asked about the events leading up to the couple's pending divorce.
